What is Sophos ?

Sophos is a software tool for development of applications based on knowledge. A special focus is put on knowledge acquisition and it organizes knowledge ready for implanting into an expert system. Sophos enables you to gather knowledge quickly and easily in a structured way, and to organize it in rule form. Knowledge acquisition has always been the bottleneck in developing knowledge bases. Sophos has been developed to meet this need.

Sophos enables you to customize the developed applications with a user-friendly toolbox available to the developer. The application interface can then be adapted to the end user, by adding colors, graghics or pictures.

Who does Sophos help ?

The Humain ("Domain") Expert

Thanks to the user-friendliness of Sophos, the domain expert can build his own knowledge base. In little time and without writing a single line of code, the expert can generate the rules and validate the system without employing a knowledge engineer.

The Knowledge Engineer

Sophos frees the knowledge engineer from the long and tedious task of determining all the possible object-value possibilities. Trivial rules are also automatically eliminated by Sophos.

The Non-Expert and Non-Programmer

Up to now conceiving expert systems has always been reserved to specialists in artificial intelligence. Thanks to Sophos, the development process is now accessible to everybody. Anyone who calls upon logic and large quantities of data to make their decision can build their knowledge base.

Technical Features

Visual : Sophos® presents the application's line of reasonning by way of graphics. The tree illustrates perfectly the links, from deductions to the goal. A search function enables the system to find and to display a particular factor. Modular / Extendable : Sophos® enables the integration of an existing tree into a new application. Several independent modules can be created and linked together into any new application. Database Link: Sophos® provides access to databases (dBase format and others), thus enabling the use of sources of information already available within the organization. In addition, Sophos® allows the user to directly manipulate database records. Flexible and Interactive : Sophos® is adapted to a wide range of situations and undertakings. Multilingual : Designed as a multilingual program, Sophos® enables the user to work either in French or English. Unlimited Number of Applications : Generates a stand-alone executable which can be easily duplicated and distributed.

User-Adapted : Offers two work options depending on the skill level: in guided session mode, it assists the user in his/her development process and provides ongoing support; in direct mode, it is up to the developper to determine the sequence of tasks to be performed. Two Development Stages : Once the knowledge aspect has been developed using Sophos®, the end user's interface can be easily customized. Testing : With Sophos®, the application developed can be checked at any time to ensure its smooth running. Self-Documentation : Enables the user to print out a copy of all application's components in text or graphic form. Consultation Log : All end user consultations can be saved on files or archived.
